The u-Rippa is a portable current simulator that is set upon the edge of any pool to create a turbulent current/wave
It makes perfect sense that by having your children learn and practice water safety skills in a current, we can significantly improve their learning objectives, for:
Over-Confidence: Recognise the limits of their abilities and dispel any over-exaggerated beliefs for coping in different aquatic environments (over-confidence is a real issue, which is too often overlooked as contributing greatly to drowning deaths and injuries, especially in those who can swim) Read this Blog to see more on how over-confidence kills the best of swimmers.
Authentic/Stronger skills & knowledge: Learn & practice self rescue skills in an environment similar in which the skills will be needed.
Panic Management (expecting the unexpected): Gain a physical understanding of the unexpected variables that impact on their ability to think and act concisely (e.g. waves splashing in their face, the force of a current.) By providing a greater understanding of what to expect, we can reduce the level of shock, which is the first step to panicking.
Panic management (thinking and making positive decision while under pressure): By practicing techniques for avoiding panic in the current, we develop stronger skills, understanding and reflex behaviour.
Respect through experience: Develop a healthy fear and respect for dangerous waters so that your children will think twice before entering waterways that exceed their abilities.

The u-Rippa Current Simulator provides the means for us to take stress induced training methods used by the Special Australian Services (SAS), the USA Military, Fire brigades and Police for dealing with high stress situation and simplified them to make them more fun and very educational for younger kids
The Li’ Rippa program is providing parents with a peace of mind by empowering their kids to take safety into their own hands.
A key to your children’s safety is for them to recognise the dangers and then develop a real respect for those dangers so that they will think twice before entering the water.
Our ‘hands on approach’ in the simulated current provides your children with a real physical and mental understanding of the dangers, a chance to recognise their own abilities for coping in such environments and to further develop self rescue skills learnt during the course of swim lessons.
These are incredible life skills, which your children will have for life.
If you would like your children to participate, ask your school if they will be conducting the u-Rippa program or email us to find out when we will be running a program in a venue near you.
Cost: $25
Max Participants: 10 per session

The u-Rippa has been celebrated with a 'High Commendation' for the 'Community Eductaion Program of the Year' at the RLSSNSW and Austswim Water Safety Awards
Panic Management and Swift Water Survival
The Lil' Drifta course is a comprehensive program that focuses on motivating the student to think their way out of trouble.
Learning objectives:
Panic Management: Develop mental capacity for dealing with high-tense situations.
Develop positive instinctive behaviour when in dangerous waters
Develop strong skills, endurance and confidence for coping in swift water environments.
Explore a range of self rescue techniques that is easiest for your child
Learn and practice safe rescue techniques for rescuing a victim in a current.
Though the Lil' Drifta course focuses on thinking under-pressure in aquatic environments, skills learnt can also be utilised in other aspects of your childrens life for life, including quick and concise decision making in sports, coping with the pressure of exams or dealing with high-stress situations in careers later on in life.
Costs: $25
Max Participants: 10 per session
Duration: 30-40 min
Age: 5 -13 yoa
Swimming abilities: Learn to swim, Squads
Each student rolls of the pool edge and into the current to complete a somersault underwater (with the assistance of the instructors). This can be completed with a blindfold to make the task more real
The students are disorientated, giving them a real feel for what it could be like to fall into turbulent a current.
After completing this several times, another student throws them a life jacket, which they have to don in the current before reaching a certain point on the pools edge.
This skills set is focusing on finding the surface from capsized boat/getting washed of rocks/slipping into a river etc. and donning a lifejacket in rough waters.
Panic management and Swift water survival course Pt 2
Learning objectives:
Our objectives for the Lil' Legends course is to make the scenarios as real as possible.
Fully clothed, the students complete puzzles and tasks in the current, while waves are splashing their face. It sounds intense, but the kids love it.
Fully clothed, the students are tasked to:
1. Survival 101
Remove their shoes, socks, shirts and pants (which they are wearing over their swimmers) in the current before the current pushes them past a mark on the edge of the pool.
2. Thinking before Sinking
This sounds silly, but the student is having a great time while treading water and learning to think under pressure.
Snorkelling is a very popular activity in Australia, it's interesting, educational, relaxing, heaps of fun and most Australians will try it at least once in their life time.
It's great for developing in-water confidence, easy to learn and relatively easy to access, which allows for anyone to enter the water.
Because it is easy to access, individuals and families will enter the water without any prior experience, no real skills and ignorant of the hazards.
Annually there are fatalities and serious injuries resulting from Snorkelling. And way too often coastal holidays are ruined or called short from basic snorkelling injuries.
Taking the time to have a basic snorkelling lesson will significantly reduce the chances of coming to grief and will significantly enhance the experience.
The Lil' Snorkla program will provide the students with the skills, knowledge and experience they will find very useful for the rest of their life.
When they arrive in Exmouth, Western Australia to snorkel with the Whale Sharks or on the Great Barrier Reef, they will be the ones getting the great photos from all angles instead of the snorkelers shooting from the surface.
